Anthony Downs
Senior Fellow in Economic Studies
The Brookings Institution
Since 1977, Downs has been with The Brookings Institution,
a research organization in Washington D.C. Previously,
he was chairman of Real Estate Research Corporation,
a nationwide consulting firm for real estate investment,
housing policies, and urban affairs. He is director of
General Growth Properties, Bedford Property Investors,
and the NAACP Legal and Educational Defense fund. He
is the former director of MassMutual Life Insurance Company,
Essex Property Trust, and the Urban Land Institute, among
others. Downs received a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford
University, is the author or co-author of 20 books and
is a frequent speaker on real estate economics, housing,
and urban policies.
