Ty Tabing
Executive Director

Chicago Loop Alliance

The Chicago Loop Alliance (CLA), is a business improvement district with the merger of the Greater State Street Council (GSSC) with the Central Michigan Avenue Association, which was formed under the leadership of Tabing. The objective was to unify the diverse constituencies in the Loop, which include theater, retail, culture, residents, and the largest college community in the state of Illinois. Going forward, the CLA will be focused on destination-marketing the Loop and implementing capital projects that improve connectivity and access to downtown Chicago.

Prior to the CLA merger, Tabing was the executive director of GSSC where he led many programs including a branding initiative that sought to enliven the Loop with visual interest, enhance pedestrian flow within the area and create better tie-ins between Millennium Park and the Loop. This branding study is the "road map" CLA now uses to enhance the built environment in the Loop.

Prior to joining GSSC, Mr. Tabing was an assistant commissioner with the City of Chicago 's Department of Planning and Development (DPD). Notable projects he led include the selection of the developer of Block 37 and Chicago 's winning efforts to recruit the Boeing Corporation to Chicago. Prior to becoming assistant commissioner, Tabing was a financial analyst in the TIF division of DPD where he negotiated financial assistance for real estate development projects throughout Chicago.

During the mid-1990's, Tabing held senior positions in several state-wide political campaigns across the country including issues director and campaign manager. Upon completing graduate school in 1992, he worked in U.S. Congressman Dan Glickman's Washington, D.C. office before returning to Chicago.

Tabing is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and is on the advisory board of directors of the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, DePaul University 's Kellstadt Marketing Center and the Apparel Industry Board. He holds a master of arts in public policy from the University of Chicago in 1992 and holds a bachelor of business administration, magna cum laude, in economics from Wichita State University.
